HOW I OVERCAME CLUTTER . . . AFTER 31 YEARS
Bye-bye clutter!
Bye-bye clutter!
Bye-bye clutter!
For years I had tried over, and over, and over again to free myself from the burden of living like I was. My home was filled with books, papers, clothes and things I no longer used, needed, or wanted. I'd try following different suggestions for months using suggestions for ways to change my situation, but still, my clutter triumphed over my efforts. Then I’d try another way and end up with the same disappointing results. My clutter was just as bad or even worse each time I tried something new.
I felt like such a failure every time my young grandchildren had to stay on the bed in my bedroom because it was the only free surface where they could play. Friends and family couldn't be invited over . . . There was absolutely nowhere for anyone to sit. Also, it was so hard to let go of things. Without realizing it, holding onto things had somehow brought a sense of comfort to me.
Despite the humiliation, discouragement, and isolation, I never gave up hope that I'd find a way to beat my clutter. Then one day, I finally came to a . . .
The day my big brother died was one of the most horrific days of my life. As long as there’s life there’s hope. He was such a beautifully talented and gifted man but the realization that sadly, all of that went to the grave with him untapped . . . unused . . . hit me like a ton of bricks.
It was then that I drew a line in the sand. I determined that I would not allow my clutter hold me back from allowing my gifts and talents to shine through and be used to benefits others. I was going to find a way out of me clutter situation.
Wikipedia states, “A line in the sand is an idiom, of which one meaning is a point beyond which, once the decision to go beyond it is made, the decision and its resulting consequences are permanently decided and irreversible. My line in the sand was the passing of my brother.
On that day, I set out to free myself from the clutter that was humiliating and weighing me down and I've never looked back since. I began to understand two things . . .
“Clutter cannot be organized.”
“You can never get to the top of a staircase by looking at the top of it.
You’ve got to continually focus on the step that is right in front of you.”
These two simple concepts began helping me become the "Michaelangelo," so to speak, of the clutter that once held me captive. I began imagining what I wanted my home to look like and from that day forward I've been able to see the beauty of my home in my MIND first. Now, I'm "sculpting" my way to a beautiful and elegant home. I've even found a way to help make decluttering something to look forward to doing.
Before a significant change happens in anyones life, there must be a defining moment . . . a point where you finally put your foot down and say to your situation, "You've come this far, but today, you're not coming any further!" Are you tired of failing like I was? Are you at the point where you're ready to
